Bo Schembechler

The great Bo

The great Bo

Great talk given today by our professor, Dr. Kim Eagle, on Bo Schembechler. I wish I was around Michigan earlier to have met this man. He sounds like an amazing guy and his fight against heart disease was astounding. Take a read of his wiki to read about all he has done for the Michigan community. It made me truly proud to be a Wolverine. Go Blue.

My favorite quote of the day, on heart disease:
“If they don’t stop smoking, I go nuts, I get right in their face. ‘Do you want to live? What are you doing to yourself? Do you want to see your kids grow up? If you want nicotine, I can give you nicotine, but the tar is going to kill you.’ I go nuts on smoking, and it works.”

Here are some quotes by Bo:
“What the mind can conceive, the mind can achieve and those who stay will be champions.”

“When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft; on the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing.”

“I love to win. Love it. Football is just too hard and too tough if you’re not successful. This isn’t just recreation, and the sport isn’t for everybody. I just don’t want to expend all this time and effort and come up short.”

And my favorite:

“By your own soul, learn to live.
If some men force you, take no heed.
If some men hate you, have no care.
Sing your song, dream your dreams
Hope your hopes, and pray your prayers.”
